ZKR Patella Lift Implant

ZKR Orthopedics Performs First U.S. Patella Lift Procedure, Initiating FDA Trial

In a landmark moment for orthopedic surgery, ZKR Orthopedics recently completed the first U.S. Patella Lift procedure as part of the initiation of a new FDA-regulated clinical trial. Horizon Clinical Research is proud to be a participating site in this important study.

What Is the Patella Lift Procedure?

The Patella Lift is a novel surgical approach designed to address patellar maltracking — a condition in which the kneecap does not move correctly within its groove, causing pain, instability, and accelerated cartilage wear. The procedure uses a specialized implant developed by ZKR Orthopedics to reposition the patella and reduce joint stress.

Unlike traditional realignment surgeries, the Patella Lift is designed to be less invasive and more precisely adjustable — potentially offering a meaningful option for patients who have not responded well to conservative care.

About the FDA Clinical Trial

The FDA-regulated trial evaluates the safety and effectiveness of the Patella Lift implant system across multiple clinical sites in the United States. The study follows rigorous research standards and is independently monitored for patient safety throughout.

Eligibility criteria apply, and not all patients with knee pain will qualify. Individuals who may be considered include those with:

  • Chronic anterior knee pain
  • Patellar maltracking or instability
  • Cartilage wear related to abnormal kneecap mechanics
  • Symptoms not adequately controlled with physical therapy or injections

Why This Research Matters

Patellar conditions are among the more challenging problems in knee surgery. Many patients cycle through years of conservative treatment before finding relief — or are told surgery carries significant risk and recovery. The Patella Lift represents a new category of solution that may change outcomes for a meaningful subset of patients.

Clinical trials like this one are how promising innovations reach patients safely and responsibly. By participating, patients gain early access to emerging technology while contributing to data that could benefit future generations.
